Paul Reed, special assistant to the district superintendent of Irvine Unified School District, will become deputy superintendent for business services on Jan. 1.

The district board appointed Reed to succeed Joseph Holder, who is leaving to join an insurance company in Corona.

In announcing Reed’s promotion, the school board said it had screened 82 candidates for the job. Noting that Reed has served as chief negotiator for the district, the school board said he “was recently awarded an honorary membership in the Irvine Teachers’ Assn. for his integrity, his sense of fairness and his honesty during this year’s negotiation process.”
