A former aide to Gov. Edwin W. Edwards was shot today by a man he had just opposed in federal bankruptcy court and later died at a hospital, authorities said.

Clyde Vidrine died about 2 1/2 hours after the shooting. He had been hit in the back of the head, neck and thigh. U.S. marshals arrested the gunman, who was with his wife and son. Witnesses said a woman and juvenile also were taken into custody.
