Avalon : Council Doubles Its Salary
City Council members voted Tuesday to double their monthly salaries from $100 to $200. Only Mayor Hugh T. (Bud) Smith voted against the raise.
A state law enacted last year--but set to expire Dec. 31--allows councils in cities of fewer than 35,000 residents to raise their monthly salaries to $300.
