Share

Superior Court Judge Robert O’Neill announced he is stepping down from the bench to start a private law practice.

O’Neill, a former county prosecutor, was appointed to the San Diego Municipal Court in 1978 by then-Gov. Edmund G. Brown Jr. and in 1980 was elevated to the Superior Court.

As a deputy district attorney, he specialized in white-collar fraud prosecutions. O’Neill said Tuesday that his practice will focus on consumer protection, fraud, insurance, negligence and product liability litigation.

He will be joined in the new firm by Craig McClellan, a two-time winner of the outstanding trial lawyer award given by the San Diego Trial Lawyers Assn. McClellan has been a partner in Luce Forward Hamilton & Scripps, the county’s second-largest law firm.
