The population of Los Angeles County has jumped 8% since 1980, with Latinos accounting for more than two-thirds of the increase, according to a county report released Thursday.
Since the 1980 U.S. Census, the county’s population has increased by 597,000 to a total of 8,074,000, the report by the Regional Planning Department said.
Latinos accounted for 70% of the increase, the report said. The number of Anglos rose only 0.4%, with the number of blacks increasing 15.4%, Asians 10% and other minorities 4.2%.
Nearly 45% of all births in the county during the first half of the decade were to Latino women, the report said.
