Tommy Davis, who kicked 234 consecutive conversions when he was with the San Francisco 49ers in 1959-69, said he has terminal lung cancer, which he blamed on cigarettes.
Davis, 52, said that doctors had operated on him recently and hoped to remove the cancer but that it had already spread and had reached his vocal cords.
“Smoking did it,” he said. “I probably never should have started it. We used to smoke in high school. I regret it now.”
