As we reported, “Howard the Duck” has been given a pseudonym for its overseas bookings. And early reports from Japan indicate that the name change may be working. In its first two days there, “Howard, A New Breed of Hero” sold $600,000 in tickets.
Figures for far-away places like Singapore and Malaysia weren’t available--but were reported (in Daily Variety) to be healthy.
More “Howard” happenings: The video hits on Jan. 15 from MCA Home Video and you can still find a “Howard” 16-month calendar (dating from the August release) in the stores for $8.95.
“We haven’t had any re-orders for it, but some stores says it’s selling well for Christmas once they clear the dust off,” said a spokesman for Day Dream Calendars. “The bottom line is the movie was a bomb, and so was the calendar. But the calendar will be around longer and we think was better made than the movie.”
