SECOND-RATE HART

Share

“FIELDS OF FIRE.” Corey Hart. EMI-America. Hart tries to balance his teen appeal with meaningful lyrics, but don’t let that fool you. He’s not even a second-rate Bryan Adams, let alone a second-rate Dylan or Springsteen. He seems to think that just mentioning “Crime and Punishment” in a song makes him literate, but his attempts to marry clumsy assessments of current events with unimaginative approaches to current rock styles make for by-the-numbers rock of the moment. At least the music’s well-crafted, but the topical verse is embarrassing. Try this evaluation of world affairs: “When Castro got the Bay of Pigs/The world was poised to launch their MIG’s/America’s the land of hope/America don’t hang your rope.”
