Windows at Newspaper Spray-Painted
Vandals spray-painted editorial comments across the front windows of the Newsline offices in Hillcrest on Friday night or Saturday, the newspaper’s editor-publisher reported to San Diego police Saturday.
Larry Remer said the vandals had painted “Ollie Si, Remer No” in green across two picture windows, apparently referring to Col. Oliver North, the fired National Security Council aide allegedly involved in arms shipments to Iran and to Nicaragua’s contra forces.
Remer said that he doesn’t know what prompted the vandalism but that the newspaper had published editorial cartoons about the Iranian -contra controversy in a recent issue.
