Police said they are investigating whether the same man robbed two banks in Garden Grove Monday.

The man in both robberies was described as a Caucasian, with wavy brown hair, in his late 20s, about 5 feet, 10 inches to 6 feet tall, and about 180 pounds, Police Lt. Chuck Gibbs said. He was described as wearing two silver-studded earrings on his right ear in one of the robberies, he added.

“The robberies are similar in both cases,” Gibbs said.

At 10 a.m. the suspect walked into the Security Pacific Bank at 11460 Knott Ave. and presented a teller with a note demanding money, Gibbs said. The man, who had told the teller he had a gun, walked away with an undisclosed amount of money, he said.

At 1:14 p.m. a man fitting the same description walked into the Coast Federal Savings Bank at 12555 Valley View St. and handed the teller a note demanding money. He, too, indicated he had a gun, Gibbs said.

The man escaped with $600, he added.

The suspect was wearing different clothes each time, Gibbs said. It was during the first robbery that the suspect was observed to be wearing the earrings, he said.
