The U.S. Court of Appeals upheld government approval of the sale of seven Metromedia stations to Rupert Murdoch. A lawsuit opposing the sale was filed by a coalition of individuals and citizen groups on grounds that a crucial part of Murdoch’s agreement with the Federal Communications Commission reduced diversity of station ownership in New York and Chicago. The other stations serve Los Angeles, Washington, Dallas, Houston and Boston.
