Share

Early next month, the Lynwood Unified School District will began a new Before-and-After School Child Supervision Program for elementary school students of working parents with the help of a $36,000 grant from the state Department of Education.

The program, which will operate on all nine elementary campuses of the district, is scheduled to start Jan. 15. It will be operated from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Nine teachers and 18 instructional and recreational aides will be hired to run and staff the program. Fees are $1 per hour or $5 per day.

Though the program has received this initial grant, it must be made self-supporting, said Shirley Webb, director of child development for the district.

The program can accommodate 247 students. The district is starting to sign students up for the program. For more information, call 603-1550.
