An 88-year-old resident of a Chula Vista board and care home survived a freak accident when a car crashed into a bedroom and pinned him against a wall, police said. Joe Garcia was in bed when a car driven by Mildred Pfeiffer, 83, crashed into the room, a spokeswoman said. Garcia was trapped beneath the car until Chula Vista firefighters rescued him. He suffered leg injuries and other cuts and bruises and complained of back pains. Police said the accident occurred about 3:30 p.m. when Pfeiffer, who was not hurt, lost control of her car after turning into the driveway. She apparently stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. Garcia was taken to Chula Vista Community Hospital, where a spokeswoman said he was not seriously injured and was “doing just fine.”
