Holiday travel was complicated as dense fog blanketed roads in the Midwest, South and West and closed several airports, including Hartsfield International at Atlanta, hub of many main airline routes. A Federal Aviation Administration representative said that at least 120 flights in and out of Hartsfield were delayed, resulting in a massive backlog. Fog also made driving hazardous in western Montana and parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Alabama. Light snow fell in the upper Great Lakes, but temperatures were mild in most of the rest of the nation.
