Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railway Co. said it has reached an agreement to support a proposed merger of the Southern Pacific and Santa Fe railroads into the nation’s third-largest rail system. The announcement came after Southern Pacific and Santa Fe Railway Co., which owns both railroads involved in the merger, agreed to give the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad certain trackage rights in Texas. The railroads are seeking to have the Interstate Commerce Commission reopen its consideration of the merger.
