Police arrested 89 people in the San Fernando Valley on suspicion of drunk driving during a 10-hour period of stepped-up patrols over the New Year’s holiday.
From 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 4 a.m. Thursday, a task force of 50 motorcycle officers patrolled Valley streets, arresting 57 people, police said. The other arrests were made by patrol officers in cars.
No traffic accidents involving drunk driving caused death or serious injury in the Valley during that time, police said.
Most of the arrests were made in the Van Nuys area.
Coincidentally, the drunk-driving sweep made during the same time period last New Year’s also resulted in 89 arrests.
