NBC’s five owned-and-operated stations, already killing the competition with the network’s Thursday night comedy lineup (“Cosby,” etc.), would like to expand their ratings grip to the 7:30-8 p.m. slot (currently filled locally by “Card Sharks”). So they’ve ordered a full year--24 episodes, guaranteed to air this fall--of MCA-TV’s half-hour “Out of This World,” starring Donna Pescow. And 75% of the remaining major markets already are sold.

Pescow plays the Earthling wife of an alien who communicates by voice box and is never seen. The series opens when their daughter (Maureen Flannigan) comes into her powers on her 13th birthday.

Said Pescow: “Most mother’s have to explain the mysteries of the female body to their teen-age daughters, but my TV daughter hasn’t a clue she’s half alien. When she turns 13, she can stop time!”
