Two bus drivers have been fired by the Orange County Transit District for alleged vandalism during their union’s recent strike, and six others have been suspended. Joanne Curran, OCTD spokeswoman, said the firings followed two days of hearings, but she declined to name the drivers or specify what they are accused of. She said that the charges are “very serious” and concern both passenger safety and vandalism and that the action was not taken in retaliation for the strike. But Juliene Smith, the general chairwoman of United Transportation Union Local 19, said the union, which represents the 730 bus drivers who struck last month for 13 days, will file grievances seeking to have the “unjustified” firings and suspensions rescinded.
