A San Fernando woman was killed and three members of her family were injured in a weekend traffic accident in Tucson, authorities said Monday.
Sarah Valdez, 39, was ejected from a pickup truck driven by her husband and died of head injuries, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Public Safety said.
Investigators said the vehicle swerved and overturned while trying to avoid hitting a car that changed lanes ahead of it. The accident occurred Sunday on Interstate 10, northwest of Tucson.
Luciano Valdez, 48, and his daughter Claudia, 13, were hospitalized at University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson. The father was listed as “serious but stable” Monday, and the daughter was in “good” condition, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The driver’s son, Jose Valdez, 22, escaped with minor injuries and was not hospitalized. He was riding in the truck’s camper shell.
