Abshire Takes Over as President’s Aide on Iran Inquiries
David M. Abshire, the former NATO ambassador, took over his duties Monday at the White House as President Reagan’s special counselor for fielding requests for information concerning the Iran arms scandal.
Abshire, a conservative foreign policy specialist, has been assigned an office suite on the fourth floor of the Executive Office Building and is expected to organize a staff soon.
Abshire will handle White House strategy and requests expected to be made in the coming days by the House and Senate select committees, which will be investigating the covert sale of arms to Iran and the diversion of the proceeds to the Nicaraguan rebels, known as contras.
