Share

A consultant has been hired to investigate the Fire Department’s minority hiring practices and recommend improvements.

Cooperative Personnel Services, a nonprofit corporation with branches in Los Angeles and Sacramento, was hired for $3,960. Completion of the study is expected by the end of February.

The City Council voted Tuesday 3-2 to hire the firm. A firefighter hiring freeze was ordered Oct. 7 following allegations of racial discrimination by a black firefighter with the Houston, Tex., Fire Department.
