Lynwood : Firefighter Hiring Study
A consultant has been hired to investigate the Fire Department’s minority hiring practices and recommend improvements.
Cooperative Personnel Services, a nonprofit corporation with branches in Los Angeles and Sacramento, was hired for $3,960. Completion of the study is expected by the end of February.
The City Council voted Tuesday 3-2 to hire the firm. A firefighter hiring freeze was ordered Oct. 7 following allegations of racial discrimination by a black firefighter with the Houston, Tex., Fire Department.
Gregory E. Handy testified before the council that he believed he was discriminated against when he applied for an opening in Lynwood, where there are no black firefighters.
