Life in Malibu
“Biting midges” are making our Malibu house about too difficult to use. The bites don’t show up for a day or two, and people don’t realize where they got them. Then great welts appear, itching and burning for a week or so. Some people are more susceptible than others, but many get bitten, some badly. Insect repellent is not too effective.
The “biting midges” breed in running water, and can be controlled by bacteria at the larva stage. The L.A. County Mosquito Abatement people spray Malibu Creek, financed by the Los Virgenes Sewage District because of the increased water flow. They were so bad there that construction jobs were virtually halted, and people are reluctant to go outdoors, in an outdoor recreation area!
The treatment costs money, and we request immediate funds to the Mosquito Abatement District so they can spray the other affected Malibu creeks. This has become a major problem, but it is controllable, and should be done right now.
