USC Takes Lead at UCI Swim Invitational

The USC men’s and women’s teams took first-day leads Saturday at the UC Irvine Swimming and Diving Invitational in Heritage Park at Irvine.

After the preliminary round, the Trojan men are leading with 376 points. Hawaii is second (305) and UCI fifth (164).

The Trojan women won nine of 12 events and have 718 points. Colorado is a distance second with 331 points.

Today’s final rounds start at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.

USC’s Dan Jorgensen, a former star at Mission Viejo High School, won the 400-meter individual medley with a time of 3:57.50 and finished second in the 100-meter backstroke behind Craig Kelly of Cal State Long Beach.

UCI’s Brian Pajer was second to USC’s Dave Cademartori in the 100-meter breast stroke for the Anteaters’ highest individual finish.
