Local News in Brief : Thieves Hit Van Nuys City Hall a 3rd Time
Two offices at Van Nuys City Hall, including that of Mayor Tom Bradley, were burglarized sometime over the weekend, marking the third break-in at the building in less than a month, police said Monday.
Detectives said they are investigating whether the break-ins are related.
Bradley’s fourth-floor office and the third-floor office of the Department of Street Maintenance were burglarized sometime between Friday evening and early Monday morning, said Detective Charles Barnes. The thefts were discovered by employees returning to work Monday.
A word processor was taken from Bradley’s office, and two electric typewriters were removed from the street maintenance office, Barnes said. Police set the value of the stolen equipment at $5,000.
There were two other break-ins at Van Nuys City Hall last month. On Dec. 23 or 24, burglars entered the offices of Los Angeles City Councilmen Ernani Bernardi and Joel Wachs, taking equipment valued at $10,000.
Earlier in December, thieves broke into the city attorney’s office and took a microwave oven and a typewriter.
