STATISTICAL WATCH : Burroughs’ Little Player Puts Up Big Numbers

Tom Kelly may be only 5-8, but the senior point guard is putting up big numbers for Burroughs. Kelly is averaging 21 points per game and is shooting 57%. He’s even deadlier from the free throw line, where he has made 48 of 51 attempts (94.1%). . . . After scoring 17 points in his first five games, Jim Bonds of Hart had 29 points and 17 assists in the Indians’ two wins last week. . . . Kevin Franklin of Taft, one of the Valley’s most accurate field goal shooters this season, has made 64% of his shots. A Times All-Valley first-team selection in 1985-86, Franklin has scored more than 30 points in eight of the Toreadors’ 13 games, including a school-record 43 in an 82-70 Valley League victory over Reseda on Friday. He is averaging 30.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game.

Hot Streaks: Saugus High, which lost three of its first four games, has won nine of its past 12 games. In the Golden League opener against Burroughs (Ridgecrest), the Centurions scored 16 straight third-quarter points in a come-from-behind 62-51 victory.

Girls: Julie Arlotto has become the second all-time leading scorer in Simi Valley girls basketball history. Arlotto, a senior in her third varsity season, has scored 837 points. Teammate Paula Cooper, another three-year varsity player, is fifth on the all-time scoring list with 558 points. Cheri Graham scored 1,389 points during her two-year career at Simi Valley from 1979 to ’81. . . . Dawn Broline continues to lead L.A. Baptist with a 20-point average. In victories over L.A. Lutheran, La Verne Lutheran and Montclair Prep last week, the senior guard scored 21, 25 and 16 points.
