SDSU Tries to Get a Start Against BYU

San Diego State’s basketball team, off to its worst Western Athletic Conference start, tries for its first conference victory in five games when it plays Brigham Young tonight at 6:30 in Provo, Utah.

The Aztecs (2-12 overall) lost their first three conference games in 1982-83.

Freshman guard Tony Ross leads SDSU with a 16.8 scoring average. Sophomore guard Josh Lowery is the only other Aztec in double figures, averaging 13.7 points.

BYU (3-1, 11-6) won its first three conference games before losing Saturday at New Mexico, 102-89. Junior forward Jeff Chatman leads the Cougars with a 15.9 scoring average. Bob Capener, a senior guard from Torrey Pines High School, is averaging 14.6 points.
