INS OKs Visit by Mother of Student Who Shot Himself
The mother of Oscar Marquez, the Salvadoran immigrant who attempted to kill himself in front of stunned classmates at Los Angeles High School, will be allowed to enter the country temporarily to visit him, U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service officials said Friday.
Eudelinda de Marquez is expected to arrive tonight aboard a Costa Rican airliner. Shortly before noon Wednesday, her son, 18, drew a gun during the middle of class, put it to his temple and fired. He was reported late Friday to be in critical condition and was being sustained on life-support systems at Cedar-Sinai Medical Center.
