Awoman, burned beyond recognition when her stalled car exploded Friday after it was struck by another car on Interstate 210, was tentatively identified Saturday as a Simi Valley resident, authorities said.
The accident occurred Friday night in San Dimas, when a compact station wagon with a woman occupant stalled in the second lane on the northbound side of the freeway near Via Verde, said California Highway Patrol Officer Lujuanna Lopez.
The stalled car was struck from behind by a Cadillac traveling 60 m.p.h. and exploded instantly, Lopez said. “In those little cars, there’s no chance,” she said.
The accident victim was believed to be a 19-year-old woman from Simi Valley, but a spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said identification had not yet been confirmed by dental X-rays.
The two occupants of the Cadillac were treated for minor injuries at San Dimas Community Hospital and released, Lopez said.
