A sailor was killed in a San Diego County automobile accident after he reached forward and covered the driver’s eyes, prompting the car to veer off the road and smash into a tree, the California Highway Patrol reported. The victim was identified as Stephen Clay Oliver, 33, a crewman on the guided-missile cruiser Long Beach. He was thrown from the car at the scene on California 79 near Julian.
