San Marino : No Poll on Tennis Courts

Share

The City Council has decided against taking a public poll on the San Marino Tennis Foundation’s controversial proposal to build two tennis courts in Lacy Park. It expects to vote on the issue Feb. 11. Although four of the council members belong to the foundation, the council did not address questions of conflict of interest raised by some residents at last week’s council meeting. The foundation built six courts in Lacy Park in 1968 and says it needs more courts for its growing membership. The private organization, which has 244 member families and allows non-members to play for a small fee, has said it will pay for construction of the new courts. Opponents object to turning public land over to a private club.
