Malibu : Ruling on Land Permit Delayed

Share

The Coastal Commission has postponed a decision on a permit application that is expected to be a test case in interpreting the recently approved Malibu land-use plan.

A request by Central Diagnostic Lab to split one 11-acre parcel into two 5 1/2-acre lots is the first subdivision request since adoption of the plan, which eliminated a state program designed to preserve open space and keep rugged hillsides from being overbuilt.

The commission’s staff has recommended that the owner guarantee that another lot will not be developed if the property is split, adding a lot to Malibu’s total.

At the San Diego meeting last week, commissioners delayed consideration of the application until the February meeting in Marina del Rey.
