Pacific 10 Roundup : Cal Prevails at Arizona in Two Overtimes, Ties UCLA for First

Chris Washington sank a three-point shot with 44 seconds left in the second overtime to give California an 82-81 victory over Arizona in a Pacific 10 Conference game Thursday night at Tucson.

The Golden Bears (13-7 overall, 6-2 in the Pac-10), who moved into a tie for first place with UCLA, trailed, 81-76, with three minutes left in the second overtime.

Kevin Johnson’s three-point shot with 2:25 left brought Cal within 81-79. Both teams missed field goal attempts before Washington, whose three-pointer with 12 seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime, fired in an off-balance 22-foot jumper.

Arizona (10-6, 5-3) ran the clock down for the final shot, but Craig McMillan missed with three seconds left.

Johnson scored 22 points for Cal, and Washington added 19. Sean Elliott scored 20 for Arizona.

Stanford 69, Arizona State 65--Todd Lichti scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half to lead the Cardinal (11-7, 5-4) to a victory over the Sun Devils (5-10, 1-6) at Tempe, Ariz.

Lichti’s technical foul shot with 3:39 left put Stanford ahead for good and his three-point play 11 seconds later made it 56-52.

Oregon 77, Washington 67--Anthony Taylor scored 27 points as the Ducks (9-8, 3-5) turned back the Huskies (10-8, 4-3) at Eugene, Ore.

The Ducks took advantage of six scoreless minutes by the Huskies at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second to build a 41-29 lead with 16:48 left.

Chris Welp scored 19 points for Washington.

Oregon State 66, Washington State 48--Jose Ortiz had 23 points, and the Beavers (12-4, 5-3) routed the Cougars (6-9, 2-5) at Corvallis, Ore.

Washington State made just 25% of its shots in the first half and fell behind, 27-14.
