No Fan of Economist

While I am reluctant to argue with an alleged authority in a highly specialized facet of American life, I cannot help wondering why the Los Angeles Times persists in repeatedly calling on Robert Lekachman for economic commentary. (Lekachman, a professor of economics at Lehman College of the City University of New York, is a member of the Times Board of Economists.) I have noticed Lekachman’s writings these past several years and have found him to be a genuine carrion bird of doom. He is an obvious left-wing missionary whose main purpose is to discredit any conservative thought, particularly Ronald Reagan’s.
Since when did Lehman College take over from the University of Chicago as the fount of economic wisdom? Lekachman has predicted disaster for at least six years now and has been oh so wrong, wrong, wrong. If and when economic collapse ever does overtake our society, it will not be because of Lekachman’s insight but because of the inevitability of the economic cycles of a capitalistic system.
