Laguna Beach School Recall
The following represents my views on the issues raised by the recall movement as I understand them.
- Role of the school board: The board is responsible for establishing district policy and providing general direction to the administration in the implementation of this policy. This past summer I participated in the selection of a new superintendent and high school principal. I feel they are highly qualified and competent administrators who are able to implement board policy. It is the responsibility of these administrators to handle the daily activities of the school district.
- Disciplinary action regarding the football coach: While I strongly support drug and alcohol rehabilitation, I feel the circumstances surrounding this particular case required stronger disciplinary action than the action I originally supported. As a board member, it is my obligation to attempt to ensure that those individuals who work with our children are exemplary role models.
- Recall movement: As an elected public official I serve at the pleasure of the electorate. If my views do not reflect those of the majority of voters in Laguna, the electorate has the right to recall me.
