British Rail took good care of an embarrassed bridegroom-to-be when he arrived at Stafford railway station Saturday wrapped as a parcel.

Police who were called to the station at 3 a.m. found the man on the platform “well wrapped up in a plastic bag, wearing brown paper and string, and sporting a red star,” a police spokesman said. British Rail operates a Red Star express parcel delivery service.

The man, whose name was not reported, told police he had been at a stag party in London and had not realized he was being bundled onto a train to Manchester in the early hours of the morning.

“I think by the time he got to Stafford he realized what had happened and staggered off the train. It seems whoever wrapped him up had the forethought to buy him a return ticket, so we put him on the next train back to London,” the spokesman said.
