“We can hold our heads up. We are artists but we are also citizens of the world,” said Little Steven Van Zandt as he presented African National Congress leader Oliver Tambo with a check for $110,000 in New York late last week. The money came from proceeds from the sale of “Sun City,” the anti-apartheid song Van Zandt wrote and produced. “We have a responsibility to tell people the truth,” added Van Zandt, who presented the check with Harry Belafonte. “And that’s what we did.” Van Zandt stressed again that the money is not to be used for arms in the African National Congress’ fight against South Africa.
