Stylish Winner Is Just That in Scoring Victory in Santa Catalina

Stylish Winner took the lead entering the final turn and pulled away Wednesday to win the $65,200 Santa Catalina Stakes by 2 3/4 lengths over Prince Sassafras before a crowd of 18,959 at Santa Anita.

Stylish Winner, ridden by Gary Stevens and carrying 114 pounds, covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:43 4/5 and paid $7.60, $4 and $3.40. The win, second in six lifetime starts for Stylish Winner, was worth $38,200.

Prince Sassafras, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye and carrying 117 pounds, crossed the finish line two lengths in front of Barb’s Relic and returned $4.60 and $4.

Barb’s Relic, a 16-1 shot ridden by Darrel McHargue and carrying 116 pounds, was 4 1/2 lengths ahead of even-money favorite Talinum at the wire and paid $5.40 to show.
