Weather Forecast Puts Reagan Weekend at Camp David on Ice
President Reagan will skip a planned weekend trip to the presidential retreat at Camp David, Md., because of a forecast of freezing rain, White House spokesman Larry Speakes said Thursday.
Speakes said the President and First Lady Nancy Reagan would remain at the White House instead.
The spokesman said freezing rain would make it uncertain whether it would be safe to fly to the camp by helicopter or to go by motorcade.
The Reagans usually travel to Camp David by helicopter but make the trip by motorcade when the weather does not permit them to fly.
This will be the second weekend in a row that weather has interfered with their customary Camp David weekend. Last Sunday, because of a snowstorm, they returned to the White House earlier than usual, and a motorcade was substituted for a helicopter ride at the last minute.
