TOUCHY SUBJECT

We knew those ads for sexploitation TV dramas were getting steamy, but geez. Did you gander at that ad on page A-101 in the current TV Guide? Promoting Monday night’s ABC movie, “Tonight’s the Night” (with Ed Marinaro, Ken Olin, Max Gail and Belinda Bauer), the photo appears to depict an attractive young woman with one hand on a crucial part of a handsome fellow. Goes the ad copy, “Some know what they want.”

Scoffed an ABC spokesman in NYC, “Oh, come on now, it’s just a poor camera angle.”

A network publicist on the West Coast said: “She’s got a glass in her hand, I can guarantee you that. She’s not touching anything.”

But in the Radnor, Pa., offices of TV Guide, press spokesman Fred Jarvis turned to the ad and said, “Ah, I see what you mean--maybe she’s got a glass in her hand.”

John Rettew, the magazine’s manager of ad services, told us, “You know, we ran another version of this very same photo when ABC was promoting a similar film, ‘Single Bars, Single Women’ and received not a single complaint.

“Lewdness is definitely in the eye of the beholder,” he added.
