Quintin Dailey made two free throws with three seconds left in overtime Saturday night to give the lowly Clippers only their seventh win in 44 NBA games this season, a 114-113 victory over the Utah Jazz.

Dailey sent the game into overtime with a jump shot from the key to tie the score at 104-104. He finished with 28 points, including all 14 free throws, as the Clippers won for only the second time in 22 road games.

Darrell Griffith gave Utah a one-point lead with 10 seconds left in the extra period. But after a timeout, Dailey drove to the basket and was fouled by Bobby Hansen.

After his free throws and a Utah timeout, Dell Curry missed a jumper from the right baseline and the second-place Jazz fell three games behind Dallas in the Midwest Division.

Mike Woodson added 22 points for the Clippers. Griffith led the Jazz with 25, and Kelly Tripucka scored 21. Utah’s Mark Eaton had 14 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocked shots.

Clipper Coach Don Chaney knows his team wasn’t supposed to beat Utah.

“When you’re talking basketball on the professional level, logic doesn’t mean a thing,” Chaney said. “Sure, we weren’t supposed to win, but we did. This win was good for us. We were long overdue.”

Chaney said he wasn’t surprised that Dailey hit the tying and winning free throws.

“He looked like he had ice water in his veins he was so cool,” Chaney said.

“I guess you could say I had a good night,” Dailey said. “At first I tried to do too much, but these guys were really good for me. This is the kind of game I like. I want the ball in the last minute.”

Utah Coach Frank Layden said he “sensed early on that L.A. could win it. We were careless with our ball-handling and had a bundle of turnovers (22). Dailey made the big free throws and we didn’t.”
