Greece Culture Minister Melina Mercouri faces fierce opposition to her plan to build a 12-room hotel on the tiny, barren Aegean island of Delos, famed for its mythological sanctuary to Apollo, the god of music and poetry. Islanders on nearby Mykonos, which houses many of the 40,000 people who visit Delos each year, say the project could encourage pilfering of archeological treasures from the sprawling ruins.
