Couple Win $8,955,894 in Lotto Game
A Fair Oaks couple believe they have won nearly $9 million with a Lotto ticket bearing all six numbers in last week’s Lotto 6/49 game.
Lottery officials confirmed there was a winning ticket for $8,955,894 purchased in the Sacramento suburb of Fair Oaks. But, they said, the identity of the winner would not be official until the prize is claimed at lottery offices that reopen today.
Dolby (Dick) Marple and his wife, Tamzia, celebrated with other family members most of the day on Sunday after Tamzia Marple checked the winning numbers in a newspaper three times.
“The third time I read it, I screamed real loud. I said: ‘Dick, look at this! You’ve got to look at it!’ ” she recounted. She added: “Whoopee!”
The winning numbers, drawn Saturday night, were 25, 14, 24, 22, 39 and 8 plus the bonus number 31.
Two people successfully picked 5 out of 6 numbers plus the bonus and won $543,240 each, while 128 people picked 5 of 6 without the bonus and won $4,373 each.
