The Nation : UAW Ratifies Deere Pact

Share

About 22,000 members of the United Auto Workers voted overwhelmingly to end a 163-day-old labor dispute with Deere & Co. and accept a contract offering job security, improved pensions and higher pay. More than 85% of the 12,000 active and 10,000 laid-off Deere workers at 14 UAW locals in six states voted to ratify the 20-month agreement, ending the union’s longest walkout ever against the company, UAW spokesman Jim Hecker said. Most employees were expected to report to work today, Deere spokesman Bob Shoup said, and he expected the company to resume full production “in a matter of a couple weeks.”
