A total of 357 players--about 20% of those in the National Football League--became free agents Sunday when their contracts expired.
The list includes players from every team in the league, including a high of 23 from the Seattle Seahawks and 20 each from the Cleveland Browns, Rams and New Orleans Saints and a low of 2 from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Among the new free agents are running back Walter Payton and offensive tackle Jim Covert of Chicago; offensive tackle Anthony Munoz of Cincinnati; quarterback Danny White of Dallas; wide receiver Henry Ellard of the Rams; running back Craig James of New England; linebacker Rickey Jackson of New Orleans; running back Curt Warner and quarterback Dave Krieg of Seattle, and offensive tackle Joe Jacoby of Washington.
