Orange County Prep Basketball : Easterly Scores 19 to Lead Katella

Joani Easterly scored 19 points to lead Katella High School to a 72-45 victory over Kennedy Tuesday night in a girls’ Empire League basketball game at Kennedy.

The Knights (11-0) used a full-court press to force 27 turnovers. Ursula Lovely scored 28 points and had 22 rebounds for the Fighting Irish (8-3, 10-7).

Esperanza 74, Pacifica 21--Karen Davidson scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds for the Aztecs (7-5) at Pacifica.

In the Angelus League:

Mater Dei 71, St. Paul 34--The Monarchs utilized their full-court press, forcing 10 turnovers in the first quarter. Kelly O’Brien led Mater Dei (7-0, 18-5) with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Terri Campbell scored 16 points for St. Paul (0-7, 7-9) at Mater Dei.

In the Century League:

Foothill 57, Santa Ana Valley 38--Sue Davis scored 16 points, Najla Mitchell 12 and Sheila Bender 10 to lead the first-place Knights (7-0, 18-3) at Santa Ana Valley. Susan Hatchett and Sharon Murrell scored 14 points each for the Falcons (4-3, 10-6).

Villa Park 47, El Modena 46--Stacy Shimoba made a free throw with 44 seconds left to give the Spartans a 47-44 lead. Barbie Olson scored for the Vanguards (2-5) but Villa Park was able to run the clock out at home. Olson led all scorers with 27. Suzie Barnett scored 20 points and had 24 rebounds for Villa Park (4-3, 7-13).

Canyon 43, Santa Ana 40--Lisa Iino scored 17 and had 12 rebounds for the Comanches (5-2). Tina Bruce scored 17 and her sister Trina scored 10 for the Saints who outscored Canyon, 22-4, in the third quarter. Canyon outscored Santa Ana, 11-2, in the fourth quarter.

In the Freeway League:

Fullerton 53, La Habra 51--Vicki Silva led the Indians (7-0, 13-6) to their second victory over La Habra with 33 points. Robin Seabrook scored 16 points to lead La Habra (5-2 in league).

Sunny Hills 55, Buena Park 44--Catherine Stedman scored 19 and Nancy Bates 11 for the Lancers (4-3, 11-9) at Sunny Hills. Debbie Bellony scored 17 points and Felicia Benjamins scored 10 for Buena Park (2-5, 9-9).

In the Academy League:

Whitney 40, Newport Christian 28--Despite Cynthia Curren’s game-high 10 points, the Conquerors (2-7, 2-10) lost at home. Debbie De Leon, who scored 31 in the Wildcats’ 59-11 victory earlier this season over Newport Christian, was held to 9.

In the Orange League:

Magnolia 63, Anaheim 19--Dawne Borum scored 21 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the Sentinels (4-3, 16-5) at Magnolia. Katie Donica added 18 and Rena Rossoll 16 for Magnolia. Ursula Rauch scored 11 for Anaheim (0-7).

Brea-Olinda 72, Savanna 26--Junior center Susan Tousey scored 17 points for the first-place Wildcats (7-0, 18-3) at Savanna. The Wildcats led 22-0 after the first quarter and 43-8 at halftime. Carrie Egan scored 10. It was ninth consecutive victory for Brea-Olinda.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 68, Orange Lutheran 57--With a 42-41 third-quarter lead, Cindy Vyskocil scored 14 of her 29 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Heralds (7-1, 13-4) at Orange Lutheran. Michelle Boltz scored 20 for the Lancers (0-9, 6-11). Boltz was helped by Bev Mueller (11), Sue Brockschmidt (10), and Dee Dee Oyama (10).

In the Sea View League:

Tustin 59, Saddleback 39--Tricia Andres scored 13 points, all in the first half, to lead the Tillers (7-0, 18-5) at Saddleback. Monica Walton scored 17 for the Roadrunners (0-7).

Estancia 57, Corona del Mar 47--Shawna Newburn scored 16 points and Robin Greiner had 12 and 10 assists for the Eagles (6-1, 13-7) at Corona del Mar. Kathy Smirl scored 22 and Kiki Stoveken 10 for Corona del Mar (2-5).

Newport Harbor 41, University 39--Jenny Stucker scored 23 points and had 17 rebounds to lead the Sailors (3-4, 9-9) at Newport Harbor. The Trojans are 3-4.

In the South Coast League:

Capistrano Valley 48, Irvine 36--Heather Schoeny scored 14 points and had 9 rebounds and Caylin Combs added 13 points and 8 rebounds to lead the Cougars (4-3, 14-7) at Irvine. Cindy Edwards had 13 points for the Vaqueros (3-4 in league).

El Toro 69, San Clemente 42--Elaine Youngs scored 25 points to lead the Chargers (6-1, 16-7) at San Clemente. Karen Ptolemy scored 12 points and Lynn Kristofferson added 9 for San Clemente.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 82, Westminster 33--Kristi Smith scored 24 points and had 11 rebounds and Stacee Johnson had 18 to lead the Chargers (7-0, 22-1) at Edison. Michelle Hennessey made nine assists for Edison. The Lions (0-7 in league), were led by Shannon Bates with 16 points.

Marina 48, Ocean View 32--Dawn Charroin scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds for the Vikings (3-4, 12-10) and both Liberty Brewster and Temre Kuester added 10 points. Dalene Lawson scored 19 for Ocean View (4-3).

In the Pacific Coast League:

Woodbridge 53, Laguna Beach 31--Kathy Millat and Lisa Wehren scored 13 points each for the Warriors (6-1, 16-7). Gilly Powell scored 10 points and had 15 rebounds for Woodbridge.

Felicia Chalmers scored 13 points for the Artists (2-5, 10-9).

In a nonleague game:

Cal Lutheran 31, St. Margaret’s 29--Despite 14 points by Jennifer Morris, the Tartans (5-10) lost at San Juan Capistrano. Rene Ernst led Cal Lutheran with 10 points.

In the Academy League:

Whitney 75, Newport Christian 44--Jon Bahnsen scored 14 for the Conquerors (4-6, 7-11) at Newport Christian. Steve Austice scored 12 to lead Whitney.

In the Express League:

Wilmington 53, Claremont 49--The Cougars gave up a 27-24 halftime lead after Wilmington forward Mason Bergman scored 19 of his 29 points in the second half.
