Until a few weeks ago, very few people could have imagined that they would find themselves sitting and watching three hours of yacht racing on television.

But that was before Stars & Stripes, with Dennis Conner at the helm, made its stretch run for America’s Cup.

Times writers Chris Cobbs, Steve Dolan, Tom Friend, Marc Appleman, Chris Ello, Jeff Parenti and Rick Hazeltine visited some locations around San Diego County Tuesday night and found that interest in the race varied dramatically.
