Women’s Basketball Roundup : USC Routs Stanford; Dome Gets 42 in UCLA Win

USC used a 14-0 scoring run in the first half and a 16-0 spurt late in the second half to defeat Stanford, 79-57, in the opener of a women’s Pacific 10 basketball doubleheader Thursday night at Pauley Pavilion.

In the second game, junior forward Dora Dome scored a career-high 42 points as UCLA defeated California, 92-80.

In the first game, Stanford led 16-15 when guard Karon Howell hit a jumper for the first of 14 straight USC points to give the Trojans a 29-16 lead.

Howell led USC with 16 points.

USC is now 14-6 overall and 8-2 in the Pac-10. The Trojans are in second place behind Washington (8-1).

In the second game, Dome, who fouled out with 1:53 left, made 17 of 29 shots and 8 of 10 free throws.

UCLA is 13-7, 6-4.

Cal State Long Beach 67, Hawaii 51--The 49ers, the fourth-ranked team in the nation, opened a two-game Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. series at Honolulu by hitting 23 of 29 free throws to win.

Cindy Brown made 12 of 14 attempts from the line en route to a game-high 26 points for Long Beach (20-1, 10-0), while Penny Toler added 21.
