Nicaragua’s New Constitution
Abrams is the master of balderdash! After reading his interpretation of the Nicaraguan constitution, I tremble to think what his interpretation of the American Constitution would sound like.
Abrams sees the world through red-colored glasses. There are no gray shades in his world--everything is either red, or red, white and blue. In his analysis of the Nicaraguan constitution, the words Communists and Sandinista are used interchangeably.
In the previous day’s Times, Abrams attacked the Contadora countries because they felt the interference of the United States hampered the development of any agreement in Central America. Abrams called the Contadora countries a left-oriented group.
Persons who have recently returned from Nicaragua report that the Nicaraguan people support their government. They are willing to fight to resist any invaders, whether they be contras or, as they fear, the United States.
Their government has issued rifles to the people to be part of a popular militia. This is not the act of a government that fears its people. On the other hand, how long would the contras continue to struggle if the involvement of the United States were to cease?
