Canada’s Unemployment Rate Increases by 0.3%

TORONTO —
About 1.3 million Canadians were without jobs in January as the nation’s unemployment rate increased to 9.7% after registering 9.4% in the previous three months, the government said Friday.
The agency Statistics Canada said estimates showed that a January increase of 31,000 in employment levels was accompanied by a jump of 41,000 in the number of people looking for work.
