The American Academy of Pediatrics announced its opposition to new toys that relate to children’s television shows, and a watchdog group said it will petition the Federal Communications Commission to ban such interactive programming or to hold public hearings on the issue. The FCC approved the TV-toy tie-ins months ago without hearing comment from consumers, industry sources said. Critics say they will allow children both to see and participate in TV violence. Fall shows tied to the toys include “Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future” (Mattel Inc.), “Tech-Force and the Moto Monsters” (Axlon Inc.), “Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs” (Impulse Toy Co.).
